The name says it all. On Thursday, I called Rent-A-Wreck to rent a car with intent to purchase if I liked it. The people that own the franchise have you thinking they are doing you a favor but they are not. I could have went to Enterprise for my rental services and I should have. Rent a Wreck charges about $40 a day for a rental. $18.00 for insurance if you only have liability.
So they put me in a mediocre silver 3 speed 2000 Chevy Cavalier with GM CNG tank in the truck, named Clint. (YES! They named the car after Clint Eastwood. I asked.) Now, I owned a 4 speed 97 Cavalier and just junked it yesterday. Their car need a brake job and the radiator flushed.
Being that I was renting with option to buy he told me to take it to my mechanic. We opened the anti-freeze reservoir and it was WATER in there. He said they use a really lightly colored anti-freeze recommended for all cars and trucks. I don't buy my anti-freeze from GM so I buy and use universal anti-freeze. He tried to rip me off there.
They told me nothing was wrong with it and it ran great. I am a highway driver. I got to 60 mph and the car could barely get to New Jersey speed limit on I-295 which is 65 mph. I was a little pissed. It was definitely one of his worse cars. Then I took it back and told him something was wrong with it and I was not paying $2100 when the blue book was $945 for fair condition and $1600 for excellent.
Instead of buying that car, I rented another 3 speed 2000 Chevy Cavalier they named Lady Bug. Again Mediocre. Actually, piece of junk. I am Chevy enthusiast. He tried to give me his problems. Lady Bug has a crazy brake problem that you can feel all through the car. Didn't like that one bit. The way it stopped you would think you were going to hit someone. Then on top of the Brake system having some issues, the check engine light on. It was on because they don't want to put an Oxygen sensor under the hood. They also mentioned that it is common for the light to come on. I never had that issue. Ridiculous! Then the car was acting like it was going to seize or stop. But to paint the picture even more, the transmission is starting to fail in that car. I know because I have replaced 4 transmissions in that series of Cavaliers 1994-2005.
I took the car back Saturday and I was overcharged $20.00 for the time and they didn't finish the paperwork until 3. $40.00 for cleaning. $18.00 for an extra day on insurance. $22.04 due to going 54 miles over the 100 mile limit after I told them I needed the 200 mile package because I am in my car more than I am in any building. (Only had the car 1 day each.) Stay a way from them. And I filled both of the vehicles up and the gas light was on. Crazy people. I did them a favor.
I noticed that they pick people up or drop them off. He tried to drop me off at the mall and I have no idea where I would have ended up until his employee said the light rail train runs around the corner.
"No good deed goes unpunished."
This blog is just about me. So many things happen I cant turn and talk to someone, I need an outlet.

Brother's Automotive
On January 18,2013, I went to Brother's Automotive for the first time ever. I was floating in the area and decided to stop in to see what they have to offer. I seen a Blue 2004 Chevy Cavalier sitting in the back. I inquired about it. They said it was $1,850 with about 190,000 miles. Something seemed like it was wrong with it.
Next I went on January 31, 2013 to see if they got any new cars for sale preferably a Chevrolet. They had a 2005 Chevy Cobalt with 125,100 miles priced at $4,500. They said I could test ride it. I turned the car on. The engine sounded great. Very quiet 4 cylinder car. The car was on E. (Spoil alert) Then the car started flashing "low fuel." So I cut the car off and said I would be back when they put gas in it. After I got out of that car I noticed a Gold 2000 Chevy Cavalier. They said it was $2,200 and had 140,000 miles. I was not all that interested in the car that day and was pressed for time. I noticed the Blue Cavalier was still in the same spot.
I went back on February 6, all 3 of the cars were STILL there plus a couple other Chevrolet's, Honda, Dodge, and Toyota. Cobalt was on the side of the garage. The Gold and Black Cavaliers were in front ready to go. I asked about the Blue 2004 Chevy Cavalier and it was the same price.
I then talked to my personal mechanic said don't worry until you need a car. Just so happens last Wednesday March 6, 2013 the transmission went on my 97 Chevy Cavalier.
On Friday I rode pass this place just to see if my eye candy was still around. Only thing changed was the Cobalt was in the front with the other cars that looked ready to go.
Saturday, March 9, 2013, I went into this dealership and wanted to test ride the Gold 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. I popped the hood as I do with every car I am interested in potentially. I started the car. The heads are about to go in the Gold Cavalier. I found that out by opening the Anti-freeze reservoir and seen the anti-freeze looked like it had milk in it.
The guy Carmen did not seem to care.
Then they were going to sell me a 2005 Black Chevy Cavalier that didn't have a steering column. They wanted $4,000 because it had 81,000 miles.
Buyers beware of this place.

Borges Auto Sales
Borges Auto Sales
Used Car dealer
I went to Borges on January 31, 2013 the first time. I wanted to
replace my 97 Chevy Cavalier with a newer model. The guy was very nice. I am a
car enthusiast and I noticed that he did not know anything about cars beyond
selling. I know this car very well.
I was given the option to test driving the car. So I rode in the
car it seemed like a pretty nice car. It was a 2005 4 door Chevrolet Cavalier
base edition. It was a 2.2 liter engine with 115,000 miles. I actually
liked the car. So I told my mechanic about the car. So we rode back to the car
lot in March. He checked the car out from bumper to bumper. We found out the
motor was no good and the timing chain needed to be replaced. The asking price
was $5000.00. It was no deal. They said the car was worth that much and we did
not know what we were talking about. They had about cars they were selling
with high mileage and not so good condition.
The worst thing was they do not warrant their vehicles.
I would like to say, the sales person did not pressure me
to sign and buy.
Scale of 1 to 10.
